CTLLS Course & Qualifications

Inspire the next generation with your knowledge and experience! This course is perfect for anyone who is looking to teach their trade, either in a classroom or in a vocational capacity. Maybe you’re a hairdresser looking to share your knowledge with others, or possibly an electrician who wants to pass on the skills they have learnt throughout their career.

Overview:

Previously known as CTLLS, this qualification is suitable for both in-service and pre-service (those who are not currently employed in education).

Learners will:

  • Undertake 30 hours of teaching practice in either an employed or voluntary basis
  • Gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher in relation to legislation, equality and diversity, inclusion and meeting the needs of learners
  • Demonstrate their skills in planning, delivery, design and assessment techniques
  • Be able to teach learners over the age of 14

Progression: 

The qualification allows learners to progress into employment as trainers or tutors, dependent on the employers’ minimum requirements. Therefore you could become a full or part time tutor at your local college, or even a qualified trainer in the workplace.

Learners may also wish to develop their skills further by completing the following:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

 

Units:

21 credits from Unit A 

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Planning to meet needs of learning in education and training
  • Delivering education and training
  • Assessing learners in education and training
  • Using resources for education and training

15 credits from Unit B (3 at least level 4)

  • Evaluating learning programmes, assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding *Assessor unit*
  • Understanding the principles and practices of internal assuring the quality of assurance *IQA unit*

Where learners have already undertaken an identical unit within the last two years, the PTLLS or Level 3 Award in Education and Training, they are able to apply APL (Accreditation of Prior Learning) the roles, responsibilities and relationships module, meaning learners are not required to repeat previously completed units.

Assessment:

Learners will be assessed through written assignments, teaching observations and product evidence.

Entry Requirements:

  • Learners must be a minimum age of 19
  • Learners should be proficient in the subject they intend to teach. This can be through qualifications or 5 years or more experience in your industry.
  • All trainee tutors joining this programme will undertake an initial assessment of skills in English, Mathematics and ICT. On joining the programme, if learners have already completed a recent initial assessment, their record of development needs and previous actions to address them will be reviewed.
